Recession is the latest worry for a software engineer in Bangalore. Everyday morning when I wake up, I hope there are no layoff's in my company. Life has taken a U turn for most of us. Most of us are hoping economy to recover as soon as possible.
"Recession" who is affected the most? I believe it is a software engineer. Most of the software engineers today have a pay cut, but what about others? An engineer in Public Sector Unit has got a hike in this period. It is not once but twice in a span of a year. An Engineer in a Government organization has got a hike.
A doctor who was charging Rs 100 for a consultation last year is charging Rs 200 this year. He has got 100% hike.
Medical investigations prices has got increased. Ultra sound scanning which was costing Rs 200, is now Rs 400. Again a 100% hike.
Rice which was Rs 21 per kilo last year is now Rs 40 per kilo. Rice merchant has got a hike. :) Dal which was 35 to 40 rupees per kilo is now Rs 60 per kilo. People say inflation is nearing zero.
Floating rate of interest never comes down. It was 8 to 9 percent in 2004 when inflation was hovering around 2 to 3%...now inflation is around 0.5 % still Rate of interest is in double digits.
Prices of essential commodities which was increased due to the cascading effect of increase in petrol price has not come down...and I think it will not come down also...
Only savior point for a software engineer is Rent's have not increased this year. I know petrol prices have come down but Rs 46.75 per liter is still costly...
Hope software engineer survives till the time recession gets over...
